Bi-Helix Appliance
The Bi-Helix Appliance is an orthodontic device used primarily to expand the upper arch and correct bite problems such as narrow arches or crowding. It is especially effective in treating younger patients, but can also be applied to adults depending on the case. The Bi-Helix is designed to be minimally intrusive while offering effective results in aligning and widening the dental arch.

Attached to Molar Bands: The Bi-Helix is firmly secured to the first molars through metal bands. These bands provide a stable foundation for the appliance, ensuring it remains securely in place during the treatment period. This anchorage is essential for the appliance to apply the correct amount of pressure on the upper arch for optimal results.

Wire with 2 Active Helix Springs that Widen the Arch: The appliance features a wire that incorporates two active helix springs, one on each side of the arch. These springs are key to the expansion process, as they apply gradual, consistent pressure to the molars and surrounding teeth. The springs effectively widen the arch by separating the two halves of the upper jaw, which helps create space for better alignment and correct any issues with bite or crowding.

Lingual Wires that Extend Mesial to the Cuspids: The Bi-Helix includes lingual wires that run along the inside (lingual side) of the upper arch. These wires extend up to the mesial of the cuspids (canine teeth), ensuring that pressure is applied throughout the entire arch. By extending to the cuspids, the appliance can help guide the movement of the teeth in the right direction, further promoting proper arch expansion and alignment.
